Why Give?

Why Give to Moses Brown?

A supportive community strengthens the school environment. There are countless ways alumni, parents, grandparents and friends support MB each year. Our community thrives because of the generosity of people of all ages and MB connections.

The school's ambitions for its students and programs far outstrip the resources provided via tuition revenue and endowment income distributions. In almost every area of the school, faculty and administrators have compelling hopes and dreams for further enhancing our programs and facilities. Fundraising, whether via annual giving or support of endowment or capital projects, makes MB even stronger and allows us to pursue a constant path of growth and enhancement.

A charitable contribution to Moses Brown supports the school’s highest priorities: academic excellence, access and affordability, and stewardship of the campus.

The Moses Brown Fund

A gift to The Moses Brown Fund will be strategically invested in four essential areas that impact today’s students and that have sustained MB’s tradition of excellence:
  • 40% supports great teaching, innovative curricula, and cutting edge technology;
  • 20% helps enhance co-curricular programs outside the classroom including athletics, arts, and Friends education;
  • 20% provides scholarships to support a talented and diverse student body;
  • 20% helps us care for our historic campus.
Giving to The Moses Brown Fund offers every community member - more than 6,000 alumni, parents, grandparents, faculty, staff and friends - a chance to come together to ensure that the school builds on its 228-year tradition of providing a rigorous, values-based education that prepares students to live and lead in the 21st century. We hope that every member of the community will make The Moses Brown Fund the foundation of their philanthropy to the school each and every year, and to consider, from time to time, special gifts to additional MB priorities that align with their particular interests.

Supporting Other Priorities

Comprehensive or capital campaigns address larger projects which require additional funding not available in the most prudent of operating budgets.

Giving to endowment ensures the long-term financial security of MB. Endowed funds are invested in perpetuity. Only a small portion of the income on those investments is spent each year increasing the school’s ability to contain tuition increases while providing for excellent programs, maintenance of our facility, faculty support and scholarship.

A planned gift is an opportunity to make arrangements now for support of MB at a later date. Saving on income taxes, avoiding capital gains tax, enjoying higher rates of return than currently provided by an asset, reducing estate costs – are all benefits of making a planned gift. The simplest and most simple planned gift is a bequest.

In the spirit of the Quaker testimony of stewardship, our community’s collective philanthropic commitments help define who we are as a school.
