Head of School's Welcome
A Message from Head of School Katie Titus
We are so excited that you are interested in exploring our unique and dynamic community. We hope you will enjoy reviewing our program through this website; but please know that what is truly special about our school are our people and the deep relationships that we nurture through our program, so we encourage you to visit us and see our community in action!
As the head of school, I have spent significant time talking with faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni, and friends about what makes MB so unique, and it starts with our mission:
Moses Brown, a Friends school, exists to inspire the inner promise of each student and instill the utmost care for learning, people, and place.
With a deep history of almost 240 years of educating youth, we were founded as a Quaker school and remain committed to the ideals of Friends education. While most of our community are not religiously Friends, we certainly commit to the values of Friends education - Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, and Stewardship - in everything we do. The SPICES values are enduring and shared by Quaker schools across the country, serving as a guide to how we show up in community. I chose to join this community specifically because of the Quaker tradition of the school and have been overwhelmed by the ways in which this community lives its values and mission, each and every day.
As you read our mission closely, I hope you begin to see our commitment to inspire the inner promise of our students. For Quakers, this is referred to as the "inner light." At Moses Brown, we strive to find the balance of individual development within the construct of a community of care - I like to refer to this as balancing independence with interdependence, and it is at the center of what we do.
I hope you also will note our commitment to learning, people, and place. Our campus is alive with joyful learning and growth that challenge our students to be prepared for a complex, changing world. Our dynamic faculty and staff are devoted to everything they do in support of the experience of our students. At MB, we will know our students, and we will challenge them to think bigger than they ever thought possible.
When asked about what they love most about MB, so many of our seniors describe relationships. Students at Moses Brown forge enduring connections with their peers, with faculty, and with the subjects they explore. These relationships are born out of a passion shared by all members of our community to be fully engaged with each other and with all that our world has to offer, bringing our best selves and inspiring the best in others.
We hope you will visit us soon and experience all that is incredible about this powerful community.
With deep commitment to our mission,
Katie Titus
