Katie Titus Featured on the Independent School Moonshot Podcast

What happens when you combine the centuries-old Quaker practice of "continuing revelation" with the cutting-edge capabilities of Artificial Intelligence?

According to Head of School Katie Titus, you get a strategic vision that is both deeply authentic and radically forward-looking.

Katie was recently a featured guest on the Independent School Moonshot Podcast, where she shared her insights on navigating the complexities of modern independent school leadership. The conversation focused on Moses Brown’s upcoming 250th anniversary and the internal process the school used to chart its future.

Redefining Leadership in the Age of AI

At Moses Brown, we believe that the strongest path forward is one we chart together. As we looked toward our 250th anniversary, the question wasn’t just what our future should look like, but how we should decide it.

In the interview, Katie positions the school’s recent strategic planning process as a case study in ethical innovation. Rather than outsourcing the school's vision to external consultants, Katie championed an internal approach that relied on community trust.

"We leaned into our Quaker values, elevating voice, trust, and shared ownership across the community," she explained.

What set this process apart was an innovative blend of human connection and artificial intelligence. Crucially, Katie discussed how she guided the school to use AI as a tool for inclusion rather than efficiency alone. Rather than using AI to generate ideas or write the plan, the school utilized it to synthesize hundreds of narratives from students, faculty, and alumni. The leadership team was then able to identify patterns and honor individual voices without losing the human nuance—a strategy she describes as "accelerating insight."

A Model for Student Agency

Beyond technology, Katie highlighted the pivotal role of student leadership. By training students to facilitate dialogue with adults, the process shifted the traditional power dynamic, ensuring our strategic planning wasn't just for students, but also by them.

The result is a nine-year vision that honors our history while aggressively pursuing future goals. By combining student-led facilitation with cutting-edge data synthesis, MB created a roadmap that is not only strategic but deeply authentic to our culture.
