Middle school students explore salt marshes and shorelines in Narragansett Bay

A group of rising seventh graders adventured in early August to Prudence Island, where they explored salt marshes and shorelines as part of the Narragansett Bay Estuarine Research Reserve's educational program. Highlights of the trip included wading in the water to discover the wealth of marine life, a trip up the historic lighthouse and birding in the Pine barrens. Students caught (and released) five species of crabs, sea horses, puffer fish, many types of bait fish, and shrimp as they learned how to use dip nets, plankton nets and a seine net.
