Neha Sunkara ‘24 Earns National Gold Medal for Digital Art Piece

Congratulations to Neha Sunkara ‘24 (above with visual arts instructor Ashley Szczesiak) who was awarded a National Gold Medal for her digital art piece “Convolution” as part of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers. Neha’s piece was also awarded a Regional (Northeast) Gold Key Award. This is the third consecutive year that an MB student artist has been awarded a Gold Medal.

More than 100,000 students entered nearly 340,000 original works of art and writing to the 2024 Scholastic Awards. Selections for these awards are made by some of the foremost leaders in the visual and literary arts. Works are assessed for excellence in originality, skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. Fewer than 2,500 works received a National Medal this year, which places Neha within the top 8% of all submissions.

Since 1923, the Awards have celebrated teen artists and writers from across the country. They join the ranks of notable Scholastic Awards alumni, including Tschabalala Self, Stephen King, Kay WalkingStick, Charles White, Joyce Carol Oates, and Andy Warhol.
