Academic Departments
Upper school faculty guide and empower students to explore complex subjects, ask big questions, think critically, and act compassionately. This approach ensures that our students become thoughtful, engaged citizens equipped with the skills, character, and confidence to lead in a changing world.
Within the core disciplines of Arts, English, Humanities, Math, Science, and World Languages, students take introductory to advanced-level classes. Our academic program also provides unique opportunities for students to pursue their passions. Through one-of-a-kind course electives and purpose-driven projects, students are able to transform their inner promise to outer purpose.
Arts

Moses Brown offers extensive opportunities for all students to build creative skills, whether they are already highly accomplished visual artists, musicians, and theatre-makers or are experiencing an art form for the first time.
English
The English curriculum develops and enhances the skills of close reading, thoughtful writing, and respectful speaking and listening. Students practice their critical thinking skills in seminar-style classes, which encourage them to interact in collaboration with their teachers and each other.
Humanities

The fundamental purpose of the Humanities department is to empower our students to make sense of the world they inherit. We seek to provide them with the tools to grapple with the kind of society they want to create and the kind of person they want to be within it.
Math
The mathematics program aims to develop students' appreciation for math as an intellectual discipline while fostering logical reasoning and problem-solving skills that extend beyond the classroom.
Science

The Science Department strives to nurture a spirit of inquiry as we guide students in the study of the natural and physical sciences. Engaging students in field and laboratory work and studying scientific literature enriches the study of the natural world.
World Languages
Students are required to take three consecutive years in either French, Latin, Mandarin Chinese, or Spanish. Juniors and seniors may also choose an elective in Italian language and culture.
