MB Sophomore Wins R.I. State Singles Tennis Championship

This past weekend, sophomore Candice B. defeated an incredibly talented undefeated #1 player from LaSalle this weekend to win the Rhode Island State Singles Tennis Championship, competing in challenging weather conditions on Sunday when it was extremely windy as well as freezing, not the best weather to play for the state tennis championship.

Not only did Candice succeed but her conduct on and off the court earned her praise in a kind note from the head coach at LaSalle to MB’s girls’ varsity tennis coach, John Sargent:

“Candice played a superb match on Sunday.  Seemingly unaffected by the strong, blustery winds, and cold temperatures, Candice played some well-crafted points, hit many well-placed, accurate shots, and was steady in her play and her demeanor throughout the match.  In victory, she remained gracious and humble.  The RIIL, the Moses Brown School community, and you should be proud not only of the outcome of the match but of the sportsmanship which Candice displayed both during the match and after.  Kudos to Candice and to MB!”

To receive a note like this from an opposing coach is extraordinary and we are grateful to the LaSalle community for their good sportsmanship.

Please join us in celebrating Candice’s superb performance at the 2018 state championship. This combination of demonstrated skill, composure, grit, and humility is youth sport at its finest and speaks to the heart of Moses Brown’s school mission.
