MB Student Named RI Poetry Ambassador
Senior Lourdes N. has been named Rhode Island’s new Youth Poetry Ambassador which was announced by the state’s Poet Laureate Tina Cane and the Rhode Island Center for the Book on February 3.
Lourdes serves as editor in chief of MB’s literary magazine, Omnia. She shares that her goal as ambassador is to “create an inclusive youth literary community within R.I., where young people of all different backgrounds are welcomed and encouraged to use their minds, hearts and voices as a force for social justice.”
A launch and reading celebration to coincide with this announcement will take place later this month at the State House Library.
As part of her recognition, Lourdes will receive a $250 cash prize, an opportunity to record a reading for Cane’s distance reading series, Poetry is Bread, and the opportunity to have her poetry featured through the Poetry in Motion, RI initiative on RIPTA buses state-wide and social media.
