Ninth graders at Moses Brown typically study geometry or algebra. At every grade in upper school, students with a passion and aptitude for mathematics can move beyond grade-level material with extra electives or summer courses (at Moses Brown or online).
At every upper school grade level, students are invited to participate in mathematics outside of the classroom including competing on the Upper School Math Team, representing our school in the New England Math League, participating in the annual American Mathematics Competition, and serving as a peer tutor.
In Geometry, we coach students to write formal proofs of two- and three-dimensional Euclidean geometry. In studying lines, planes, congruency, polygons, similarity, Pythagorean relationships, circles, triangle trigonometry, area, and volume, we help ninth graders develop their spatial sense using logic and computational thinking.Inquire
